NOT SO NEUTRAL NURSERY

Posted by on May 1, 2015 in for blog page | Comments Off on NOT SO NEUTRAL NURSERY

posted May 1, 2015 by Kaitlin Smith   [Show as slideshow]   The past few months having been very busy with the birth of our daughter, Margaux and some final renovations on our house. We did not know whether we were having a boy or girl, so the subject of the “neutral” nursery was certainly up for discussion.  All Summer I had questions about the color scheme and “How on Earth I could be Surprised about the Gender?”  Most people assumed we would go with a “neutral” color scheme of beige or grey, but I’m certainly not a beige person and doubted the baby would be either! Green seems to be a big player in my home’s decor and a neutral in my opinion! Nature is full of shades of green, which blend with every color in the rainbow, whether it be blue, purple, or even red! It seemed a no-brainer to use green as the main color in the nursery- I welted everything in a lime green and found a wonderfully whimsically print to use on the roman shades, bumpers, and rocking chair. I think this will be a nursery that will evolve and grow as Margaux does!  ...

WINDMILL RENOVATION AND STAGING

Posted by on Jun 20, 2014 in for blog page | Comments Off on WINDMILL RENOVATION AND STAGING

posted June 20, 2014 by Kaitlin Smith [Show as slideshow] Above you will find some of the Before and After photos of the Windmill project I just completed.  This was a fun project to be a part of, as some of the interior space needed to be renovated and re-designed – Updated bathroom fixtures, kitchenette, flooring and paint!  The Windmill was also part of the original Croft Estate and is being sold along with one of the waterfront lots. It is a functioning Windmill and certainly an iconic landmark in the town of Essex! The Windmill was originally built in the late 1960’s by Sal Sapia and his son, Nick and I worked on the current renovations. If you are in the CT River area, it is an impressive property to check out!...

STAGING OF THE 1870’S CROFT ESTATE

Posted by on Apr 23, 2014 in for blog page | Comments Off on STAGING OF THE 1870’S CROFT ESTATE

posted April 23, 2014 by Kaitlin Smith [Show as slideshow] The past couple of weeks I have been busy working on the staging of the 1870’s Croft Estate.  The 12 acre property was purchased by Sciame Development and divided into multiple waterfront lots, one of which houses the 1870’s Croft home.  The Victorian was completely renovated, while keeping many of the historic details, such as a massive wrap-around porch, multiple fireplaces, and a dramatic central stairway. With an open floor plan and subtle hues of blue, the interior would satisfy any present day family, not to mention the sweeping views of the CT River and Windmill!  This was a great project to be a part of and one that is truly a show...

HIGHPOINT HOME – ESSEX!

Posted by on Nov 21, 2013 in for blog page | Comments Off on HIGHPOINT HOME – ESSEX!

posted November 20, 2013 by Kaitlin Smith This past week I opened the doors of Highpoint Home, Essex. I’m delighted to have a second retail venture and get to know my customers in this wonderful village community! Like Watch Hill, the Essex store will feature many one-of-a kind pieces, picked up in my travels. Some of my favorites include an early 1900’s Daybed and a pair of Ming style Horseshoe Chairs. The antique Daybed has been given a little “attitude” with a muted leopard fabric and a high gloss black-lacquer. The Ming chairs have been updated with China Seas’ “Java Java” print–one of my favorites! Highpoint Home is stocked with gifts for the Holidays. Stop by the new store to see all of my exciting finds! We are located at 55 Main Street- Next to Olive Oyl’s in Essex Village. T: (860)...

HIGHPOINT HOME FEATURED IN LOCAL MAGAZINE

Posted by on Sep 11, 2013 in for blog page | Comments Off on HIGHPOINT HOME FEATURED IN LOCAL MAGAZINE

posted September 11, 2013 by Kaitlin Smith Photo by Brad Smith I am excited to share that Highpoint Home was recently featured in the September 2013 issue of SO Rhode Island magazine! Read the full article below or click here to view the article on the SO Rhode Island website.     Now is the Perfect Time to Shop Watch Hill Highpoint Home stylish finds from around the world and our own backyard by Cheryl Butler   Now that the summer is winding down, with the hoards of tourists (and Taylor Swift) heading home for the season, it’s the perfect time to visit Watch Hill. One store you won’t want to miss is Highpoint Home. Kaitlin Smith opened Highpoint Home last year. Although she always had a passion for interiors, her career started in New York City’s fashion industry. After working in Manhattan for five years, she decided to continue her education and study Interior Design, which eventually led her to open Highpoint Home. She chose Watch Hill as a location because she grew up shopping in the village and had managed a store there for several summers. “Ironically, my mother managed the Lilly Pulitzer store in this same location in the early ‘80s. I guess we have come full circle,” Kaitlin says. Her passion and expertise in the world of fashion and design were influential in creating an inviting store atmosphere that mimics the blue-greens of the ocean and the calming neutrals of the sand, making way for a soothing and enjoyable shopping experience.
“The aesthetic of the store is certainly bright and coastal, but many of the pieces for sale can work in the home when combined with a neutral color scheme,” notes Kaitlin. “I love a pop of color – whether it be a bright pillow or pouf, I think color is an important addition to any home.” Kaitlin and her mother travel a bit, which results in plenty of pieces scouted from around the world: rattan furniture, Chinese lanterns, blue and white patterned oriental vases and jars, artisan side tables and classic picture frames. You’ll also find just as many local items, such as custom-made designer pillows, handmade rugs, elegant wastebaskets, refreshing soaps, tea towels and more that are created here in the Ocean State. “Supporting local artisans and vendors is very important to Highpoint Home. The talent we have here in our own backyard is amazing,” Kaitlin says. Highpoint Home also offers a great selection of costume jewelry and accessories. You will find many brilliant baubles to choose from. Whether you need a long necklace to wear at the beach or something a little more formal for the evening, there is definitely something to fit anyone’s budget. In addition to the storefront, Smith offers her professional design services on site. Customers can also check her helpful blog featuring some terrific do-it-yourself tips and easy updates for furniture and decor. “Accessories in the home can really change a space,” Kaitlin says. “Whether you add a new pillow or a lamp, your house will get a quick update without re-designing the whole space.” 6 Fort Hill Road, Watch Hill....
